Classes 2017-2018

Modern World & American Literature 
​(Grades 9+)

In this year-long study designed to be paired with Mosaic Freeschool’s Modern American History Survey, we will read novels, memoirs, and autobiographies to enhance our understanding of events spanning the Industrial Revolution, the Great Depression, the Cold War, present day, and points in between. Weekly live meetings will be devoted to discussion of content, historical context, literary analysis, and related writing assignments. Formal essays will be required for each book and/ortimeframe and periodic quizzes will assess student understanding of story details and other key concepts.

Instructor will use a variety of curricula and materials including, but not limited to, History Odyssey Modern Times (Pandia Press) and Glencoe Literature Library. Some sections may include related reading such as poetry and essays. Links to related reading will be provided. Students are responsible for securing each of the following books (you may purchase any edition as long as it is not an abridged version):

The Red Fighter Pilot: The Autobiography of the Red Baron by Manfred von Richthofen
